Costa Rica is magical…
Imagine riding through a jungle with sloths, beautiful tropical birds and a dramatic landscape filled with waterfalls, hot springs and lush grassland. This is where we are going!
This is a very unique trip. We not only ride thru the jungle, but we are led by a native who is not only an amazing horseman, but also an expert naturalist. Enrique will not only guide you thru the jungle on his well trained horses, but he can explain everything you see….every flower, every plant that creates medicine and food that his people have been relying on for decades. Enrique is also a cowboy and runs his herds thru the jungle…so we will be cowgirls or cowboys for the day- moving the cattle from the pastures to the paddocks.
Itinerary
Travel Dates: November 1-7
DAY 1
Saturday, November 1. Welcome to Costa Rica!
Arrival in San Jose!
A driver will pick you up at the airport. You will then head to the Presidente Hotel, one of the most recognized and well-located hotels in San Jose Downtown District. Once you arrive, you can unwind and relax! You will be very close to the main open market. This the locals market- you can go, get a snack and do some shopping! The best prices and most authentic souveniers are here.
We will meet in the roof garden for a welcome dinner together.
DAY 2
Sunday, November 2nd. San Jose- Drive to La Fortuna Coffee and Chocolate Tour.
After breakfast at the hotel, our driver will pick us up and we will head to La Fortuna! La Fortuna is famous for its naturally rich hot springs fed by the Arenal Volcano. This is one of the most beautiful areas of Northern Costa Rica. The majestic volcano is covered with a lush tropical rainforest and surrounded by hills and waterfalls.
Once in La Fortuna, we will stop for a coffee and chocolate tour as well as a typical Costa Rican lunch. One of the highlights for me on this stop is the garden. One of the guides will take us through and explain the types of different plants and how they use them in the kitchen and for creating their own medicine. It just always amazes me how the natives are so connected to their environment.
Afterwards, we will head to our hotel…Arenal Manoa.
Nestled in a serene and secluded location surrounded by breathtaking views of the Arenal Volcano. Each suite is equipped with queen size beds, amenities, and the most spectacular views of the Arenal Volcano from your own patio.

DAY 3
Horseback Ride to the Waterfall
After Breakfast at the hotel, we will head to the stable where we will be riding throughout the week. We will meet with Enrique, a natural horseman naturalist guide. We will spend the morning getting to know our horses then ride through the rainforst to a secluded, private waterfall in the middle of the jungle. Bring your swimsuits! After the ride, we will take a dip by the waterfall.
In route back, we will stop at a family farm where they will make us an amazing lunch of fish which they raise at their farm alongside the bounty from their garden. When we arrive, you can go with them and even pick your fish!
After we return to the hotel, we will have some time to change and get ready for a Gastronomic Experience at a local chef’s house.
DAY 4
Leisure Day or Extra Ride Day! Evening Cooking Class
After the breakfast at the hotel, you can choose to ride or spend the day at our amazing hotel and chill and visit the hot springs and even make a spa appt! (please do this ahead of time!)
At 5 pm approximately, we will take a cooking class at the resort where we will learn to make regional dishes and then have it for dinner 🙂
DAY 5
Cowboys and Cowgirls for the Day
Today, we will immerse ourselves into the daily live of the Costa Rican Cowboy/Cowgirl life!
After breakfast, we will head out with Enrique and our horses to visit Erick, owner of a local dairy farm. He will give us a glimpse into his life including driving cattle thru the jungle to the ranch as well as how to make cheese! This is always my favorite day and a favorite amongst our groups.
Afterwards, we will have a very special dinner at the hotel.
DAY 6
La Paz Waterfall Gardens- Transfer to San Jose.
On our way back to San Jose, we will visit La Paz Waterfall Gardens Nature Park. This is home to the largest wildlife sanctuary in Costa Rica. This is not a zoo- zoos are not allowed in Costa Rica. It is illegal to take any animals from the wild and keep them as pets.
Here, we will walk on beautiful trails surrounded by the lush landscape and spot birds, thousands of hummingbirds, monkeys, butterflies and some native cats that were injured and cannot be released back into the wild. We will go on a short hike to the waterfalls, as well and then have lunch at the sanctuary.
We will then head back to the El Presidente hotel, relax, have a lovely dinner then pack for our departure!
DAY 7
Airport Transfer to San Jose Airport

Everything is included except the spa treatment or optional day ride.
The extra day ride is $200.
